A Riot of Me

Chris at the Library Riot blog picked up on my ditty “the Open Work” which is sort of the philosophy behind this blog (remember when this blog was called OpenWorkLibrary?). You can read about his reaction here.  I have always wanted to expand this into something a bit more formal, but I didn’t want it to simply add to all the fluff already swirling around themes like Library  2.0, “blended librarians”, etc. Anyway, if you got any thoughts on the idea of the library as an “open work”,  please share.

Also if you wanted to know more about me and my research, our library is working on a digital repository of research for campus. Part of that is a feature called SelectWorks which researchers can post information and papers. You can view my profile here.

Carnitas Burrito is Muy Bien

Had the pleasure of heading out to dinner with good friends last night. Hit up a taco truck on Fairview in the fair city of  Garden City. One friend wrote it up on her food blog. See here:

I am going to add Mundovore to my blog list so we can keep on on her culinary adventures. Amy, the sweet gal behind this food blog is also giving a rapid fire food talk at Ignite Boise on Thursday, March 19th. So check out her brilliance there too.

Another food blog I will try hipping you to is called Prose and Potatoes (http://www.proseandpotatoes.blogspot.com/). This is done by the formidable Sarah Lenz. Sarah was a graduate student who did some research in the archives in my library. She even tried out some old recipes that were found there. You can also see Sarah in this video I helped create to help promote our library’s collections.

Natural Death of RSS Feeds in my Reader

So I got behind in my Google Reader on all the RSS feeds that dump into my “library folder” (to the tune of 1000+ entires). I tend to use the philosophy of “dying a natural death” in regards to out of control content (this includes the piles on my desk). A natural death is when the materials become so buried or overwhelming that are rendered meaningless and thus become “dead” to me. In those cases, I throw them away or erase them all. If it is important it will come back to me reincarnated as something else.

I am wondering if this is efficient or just lazy?

Any advice on how to keep up with RSS feeds or more importantly, how to catch up with the content you have already culled from the wilds of the internet?

Blog gone screwy

Boy, the layout of my blog went crazy. No matter what I did to try to fix it instead made it worse. Let’s just ignore it and pretend it never happened.
