Suggest Me a YA Book…
As I mentioned in my last post, I am taking a Young Adult Literature course this summer. So far I have read: how I live now by Meg Rogoff. I am in the middle of reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Also have the Genius Squad by Catherine Jinks on my list too. I would like to read a bunch to better understand the breadth of this type of literature.
If you have abook suggestion, please share as this is kind of unfamilar ground for me. Let me know what sort of YA books that you have liked.

I would recommend “Coraline” (by Neil Gaiman), “A Mango-Shaped Space” (by Wendy Mass), and “Shark Girl” (by Kelly Bingham).
Hope you like the course — my YA’s course was one of the best classes I took as a grad student.

Chris… I saw Coraline in the theaters. Looks like it might be a good read. I will have to check out your other suggestions.
Amy: I will see about the lucky book.

Another vote for Coraline, though it’s probably pushing the border of children’s/YA. I would also suggest “American Born Chinese” by Gene Yang. Super-good stuff. Also any Ursula LeGuin you haven’t read. If you have to read stuff specifically written for YA, try “Gifts”, though you would probably like her older stuff more.
